How do personalised digital menus work?
Last updated 16 July 2026
Personalised digital menus work in three steps: the venue adds dishes and ingredients once; guests open the menu via QR code or tablet and exclude what they need to avoid; then they see only the dishes they can safely order. Menucurist keeps that flow hospitality-first: no guest app, and updates that propagate across the whole menu.
Step 1: Add your menu once
Upload your dishes and ingredients in one place. Updates flow automatically through your entire menu: no duplication, no manual catch-up when a recipe changes.
Step 2: Guests open a personalised view
Guests scan a QR code on their own phone, or your team opens the same menu on a tablet. They specify the ingredients they want to avoid (any number or combination) and get a personally curated list of dishes they can safely order. Filtering is not limited to the UK's 14 regulated allergens: any ingredient can be excluded.
Step 3: Your team serves with confidence
Guests order from a clear menu of what works for them. That means less friction between the guest and the plate, fewer interruptive kitchen checks, and more time for hospitality.
What makes the filtering guest-led
Guests choose what to avoid. You show what they can eat. The experience covers regulated allergens for compliance and everything beyond them (garlic, kiwi, strawberries, or anything else they name), treated with the same care.
Quick answers
How do guests open the menu?
Two ways. Guests can scan a QR code on their own phone, or your team can bring up the same personalised menu on a tablet. Both show dishes filtered to what that guest can safely order.
What happens when a recipe or ingredient changes?
You update the ingredient once in Menucurist and the change flows through every dish and every menu that uses it. No chasing paper matrices or updating the same dish in multiple places.
Will this cut down allergen questions during service?
Yes. Guests see a clear, personalised menu of what they can eat before they order, so your team spends far less time on kitchen runs and interruptive ingredient checks. Staff stay free to deliver hospitality.
